Takes a job to get a job

Already having a job is so important when you are looking for a job.
A resume will go so far in getting you an interview, but who wants to hire someone that isn't already working? When you have a job that shows stability, then you show potential employers that you want to work and are looking to transition, rather than simply settling. Getting a job is hard when you have a lot of education and little in-field experience. Having a degree can serve as an albatross in that you are seen as expecting to bypass having to pay your dues to get up the job ladder.
Bad luck can happen, but you make your own luck by pushing for more opportunities by increasing your chances. Knocking on 100 doors gives you a better chance than stopping at 10. Of course, you have to be making meaningful attempts rather than blindly going after stuff.

It's better to win ugly than to lose pretty.
